The Auditing Practices Board's Ethical Standard 5 stipulates that the auditor of a listed company should not provide valuation services to the company if the valuation could have a material effect on the accounts, or for unlisted companies where the valuation would involve a significant degree of subjective judgement and have a material effect on the financial statements.
